OVERLAND ARTWORKS
OVERLAND ARTWORKS (OLAW) was an investigative space founded by artist Grace Clark, that was committed to the development of projects focused on the accessibility of art making and creative experiences, the creation of collaborative communities, and the investment of quality time, energy, and intention in the human experience. OLAW experimented with alternate methods of addressing art world conventions to study the possibilities of how to live and work within a creative lifestyle. OLAW served dozens of artists-in-residence from around the globe.
MISSION STATEMENT
OLAW was interested in helping people get at the root of what they need and desire – within both personal and professional aspects of a creative lifestyle – and develop problem-solving systems to work with what you've got to satisfy those needs. We wanted to test the art world traditions that are so often exclusionary and elitist by developing more accessible credible, creative experiences for broader audiences in simple, applicable ways.
OLAW believed that BIPOC lives are necessary and strived to actively question, challenge, and reimagine the structures of learning and making that are founded on capitalistic, ableist, and racist systems of oppression. All of OLAW’s projects are created specifically to provide opportunities to those that are typically underserved and to help these voices be heard.
STATUS
Overland Artworks was built on a model that relied upon passion and donated time. Because these things aren’t incredibly sustainable without compensation and often cause burnout or an inability to provide services of a preferred standard, OLAW has decided to go on hold until further notice.
